Tina Turner began her singing career as a backing vocalist for Ike Turner under her original name of Anna Mae Bullock. It was her guide vocal on the original recording of A Fool In Love that catapulted all of them into popularity, with the intended beneficiary Art Lassiter confined to the history books. The credit for insisting that Tina s vocals (she was renamed by Ike Turner, although the first she became aware of the name change was when the record was played on the radio) remain in place went to label head Juggy Murray, who was rewarded for his A&R abilities by seeing the single drive it's way to #2 on the R&B chart and #27 pop. More importantly, it gave him an act that would become a mainstay in the R&B market for many years to come.
